Stronger Together: CMD Scientific and Family Conference 2019 is a four-day collaborative conference focused on current research and care of congenital muscle disease (CMD). The event is hosted by three patient advocacy groups: Cure CMD (focused on Congenital Muscular Dystrophy), A Foundation Building Strength (focused on research and advocacy for Nemaline Myopathy) and Team Titin (raising funds for research of Titin Myopathy).

Because CMD, NM, and TTN have multiple overlapping symptoms and numerous similar disease complications, these three patient advocacy groups are a natural fit for collaboration. The conference will include a two-day scientific symposium, wherein researchers from around the globe will convene to discuss the latest research and findings, to identify key areas of disease overlap, and to discuss possible future collaborations. A handful of select affected individuals and caregivers from each disease subtype will also attend the scientific symposium to lend their voices and be a vital part of patient-centered research plans. The second half of the conference will focus on gathering affected individuals and families to share experiences, bond, and ask questions directly to some of the world’s experts in rare neuromuscular diseases.

“We have long recognized the synergy between Congenital Muscular Dystrophy, Nemaline Myopathy and Titinopathy, all diseases represented in our patient registry,” says Rachel Alvarez, Executive Director of Cure CMD and the Congenital Muscle Disease International Registry [CMDIR]. “This conference aims to expand knowledge and collaboration to the benefit of all three patient communities.”
